"2023 New Era Forum on High-Quality Development of the Oil and Gas Industry" held in Xi'an

On November 24th, the "2023 Forum on High-Quality Development of the Oil and Gas Industry in the New Era: Leadership and Innovation" was held at Xi'an Petroleum University. The forum consisted of three sessions: the Academician Forum, keynote speeches, and a youth forum exchange. Its aim was to deeply implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, expand and enrich the concept and connotation of high-quality development of the oil and gas industry under new circumstances from the perspective of strategic integration, and further promote the high-quality development of the oil and gas industry in the new era to ensure national energy security and provide a more solid energy guarantee for the economic and social development of China.

Academicians Luo Pingya, Du Xiangwan, Zhou Shouwei, Huang Weihe, Sun Longde, and Liu He from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with more than 300 representatives from government departments, energy enterprises and institutions, and research institutes, discussed topics such as high-quality development of the oil and gas industry under the drive of the energy revolution, low-carbon transformation and innovative development of oil and gas enterprises, prospects for the high-quality development of the oil and gas industry in the new era, and the role of youth in creating the future of energy.

During their academic presentations, Academicians Zhou Shouwei, Du Xiangwan, Huang Weihe, and Liu He put forward seven forward-looking ideas for the natural gas industry, demonstrated the coexistence of low-carbon transformation and energy security, clarified the development path of China's natural gas industry in the rapid growth period before 2035, the plateau period after 2035, and the slow decline period after 2050, introduced innovative achievements in the research and development of the intelligent well injection and production engineering technology system, and envisioned the bright future of digital oilfield development.

The participating experts unanimously agreed that the accelerated advancement of the third global energy transition in the context of carbon neutrality has brought new opportunities and challenges to China's energy security. As the core unit of the national energy system, the oil and gas industry urgently needs original academic research guidance and high-level scientific and technological innovation.

This forum was jointly organized by the "9th Western Oil and Gas Forum," the "10th Advanced Forum on Petroleum Economic Management," and the "7th Youth Scholars Forum of the Petroleum Economics Professional Committee of the China Petroleum Society." It was co-hosted by Southwest Petroleum University, Xi'an Petroleum University, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), the Petroleum Economics Professional Committee of the China Petroleum Society, and the China Petroleum Economic and Technological Research Institute.
